As the sixty-second feature on the Fresh Dose. blog, we are introducing the ever-so-talented Nikki Wishart.
Each week Fresh Dose. will be featuring a new artist from our playlist on our blog to highlight great independent talent.
We asked Nikki Wishart five questions to help us understand a little more about the song titled Good Intent.
1: Choose 3 words that best describe you as an artist?
Authentic, Honest, Raw
2. What was the story or inspiration for writing this record?
Good Intent was a fascinating one to write, constructed over four months with my co-writer Jessie. We started the song with one perspective, and by the last writing session, the journey of the song and my feelings had changed drastically. Most of my sessions start with a brain dump of ideas and motifs that eventually weave themselves into the tracks I release.
When writing this single, I was in a battle with my mind. I felt helpless and as if I couldn’t control the narrative people were creating about me. There’s nothing I wanted more than to tell their friends that everything I did was ‘Good Intent’, which became the song’s foundation.
3: Shout out section - who’s your favourite independent artist we should listen out for?
I have to shout out another Aussie artist JXCKY, creating pop with flares of rock and trap his music is not short of attitude and flare.
4: What’s your other favourite record on this week's top 20? Why?
5. Our sister organization @hyper_tribe is all about creating the next generation of artists, what piece of advice would you give to them that helped you the most in your music career?
One thing I have learnt is to not be afraid or discouraged by someone saying no. Whether that be a collaboration, a label or other industry professionals. Take it and use it to grow, think about what you can do to expand your project and make it stronger than before.
