As the fifty-seventh feature on the Fresh Dose. blog, we are introducing the ever-so-talented Justin Novak.
Each week Fresh Dose. will be featuring a new artist from our playlist on our blog to highlight great independent talent.
We asked Justin Novak five questions to help us understand a little more about his song titled Pray.
1: Choose 3 words that best describe you as an artist?
Eclectic, Positive, Feel-good (can I squeeze the last two together? đ
2. What was the story or inspiration for writing this record?
This is my homage to the late, Paul Johnson. I heard of his passing in August last year, so I wanted to make a record to honour his legacy in 'House music'. That record became 'Pray' Which to me says a lot, not just as a homage to Paul but to the whole ethos of House music. House is a spiritual thing, a body thing, a soul thing.
3: Shout out section - whoâs your favourite independent artist we should listen out for?
If I had to pick my favourite independent artist it would have to be âOsborneâ. Heâs a very talented singer, songwriter. I have recently been lucky enough to work in the same studio as him and what an incredible experience it was. The energy and passion this artist has is unparalleled. His attention to detail and knowledge of the music is very inspiring and has taught me a lot. Keep an eye out for âOsborneâ heâs dropping new music soon.
4: Whatâs your other favourite record on this week's top 20? Why?
Wow, thatâs such a difficult question to answer. Iâm loving all of these records, but if I had to pick one Iâd have to choose âBackâ by Kelli-Leigh. As soon as it starts there such a wonderful energy about it. No messing, catchy chorus. Solid production and great structure. I rate it!!
5. Our sister organization @hyper_tribe is all about creating the next generation of artists, what piece of advice would you give to them that helped you the most in your music career?
Keeping learning and practising. I know it sounds so obvious but itâs so true. Luck happens when hard work meets opportunity. It could take you 2 years to get discovered or it could take 12 years. The time it takes to reach your destination is irrelevant itâs the journey that matters. Have a goal in mind but stay present whilst you work towards it. Work with people who have the same vision as you. Build the foundation, Never give up and keep pushing on.
