1: Choose 3 words that best describe you as an artist?
Energetic
Authentic

2. What was the story or inspiration for writing this record?
I wrote 4:44 when I realized that I found true love for the first time in my life. This love felt romantic and yet b spiritual at the same time. All the lyrics in this song are from real-life conversations and prayers I’ve had, and this is the first time I’ve ever opened up like that on a record. Two of my favorite songs are 1+1 by Beyoncé and End of Time by Justin Timberlake, so I wrote 4:44 with some of the same vulnerability and imagery techniques to draw the listener into the story I was telling.
3: Shout out section - who’s your favourite independent artist we should listen out for?
My favorite indie band right now is Valley Boy, I found them on Instagram last year and have been hooked ever since! They’re a mix of lofi, tropical, and alternative music - everyone should check them out ASAP!
4: Our sister organization @hyper_tribe is all about creating the next generation of artists, what piece of advice would you give to them that helped you the most in your music career?
The best advice I got starting out was to appreciate and focus on the ‘here and now’ of your career. What that means is to enjoy what’s going on around you, and try not to focus too much on where you want to be. The goal is to have as much fun and work as hard as you can in the present so that you can fall in the love with the process of chasing your dreams. That advice has helped me tremendously, and I suggest that every up-and-coming artist should have that mentality.
